I will be heading to Dresden, Germany soon to compete in the World Chess – Soccer Cup. The format is exactly the same as the 2006 World Cup. The countries / brackets are also the same. There will be 8 groups of 4 countries and I will be representing the United States. The top 2 finishers (in a round robin format) of each group will advance to the 16-person knockout round.
The last person standing will be crowned champion. This is a tough format because one mistake and you go home 🙂 I am still rusty but I will give it my best shot. As you can see, I do not seem to remember how the horsies move yet. That’s why I lost to Gata Kamsky twice 🙂 Just as I said before the Mayor’s Cup, win, lose or draw, this chess Mom will enjoy the challenge and have tons of fun!
How exciting! I searched the Net for more info and found an earlier post right here on Susan’s blog: “World Cup Soccer and Chess”
Have a great trip Susan, and thanks for sharing your chess life with your fans.
Good luck Susan!
Is there an official site for this chess tournament in Dresden? I could not find one when I went to Google.

So you lost to Kamsky twice-who is he by the way? Good luck and bring the gold back home!
Hi Susan,
have a great trip and good luck.
Bernd from Germany
Gata likes to trot out his horsies and then he starts jumping them all around the board. it gets confusing sometimes.
