4 Grischuk – Kamsky
5 Gelfand – Dreev
6 M.Gurevich – Malakhov
7 Rublevsky – Sakaev
8 van Wely – Ponomariov
Yuri Shulman (USA) finally bowed out in the playoff against Grischuk. Now the top American Kamsky will face Grischuk in the sweet 16. Gata proves that he can still remember how the horsie move. Even with all the hype about the younger generation, Gata has quietly proved that he is still the strongest player in the US.
Who do you pick to move on to the super 8?

Sakaev over Rublevsky
Ponomariov over van Wely
I am rooting for Kamsky, but I don’t hold out much hope for him against Grischuk.
1. Bareev (I’m a fan of Magnus too, but Bareev is too much for him — for now)
2. Bacrot (could be Lautier though)
3. Aronian will eat V-P alive.
4. Grischuk obviously. Kamsky already achieved a lot for a retiree by getting to this point.
5. Dreev
6. Malakhov
7. Sakaev
8. Pono probably.
Kamsky and Carlsen!!
Bareev
Bacrot
Vallejo
Grischuk

Ponomariov
I join with gilachess. I root for Carlsen and Kamsky.
however, I must be honest. the first game has ended. Carlsen has a draw and Kamsky has lost. so it does not look good for Kamsky. Carlsen is rated about 80 points below Bareev and Topolov said if Carlsen wins he will hold a press conference to state that people should not play others below 60 points unless it is magnus carlsen.
But I will still pick Kamsky and Carlsen.
Ponomariov has won game 1. he went all the way one year. he is doing well again. so I can not go against him.
among the draws I would choose Bacrot
Aronian
no feelings on the others.
