Kamsky drew Kramnik or I should say Kramnik HELD ON for a draw.
Onischuk drew Svidler (Svidler forced a draw)
Kaidanov comfortably drew Bareev
Nakamura defeated super GM Grischuk in a wild game that could have gone either way which gave USA a 2.5-1.5 win over Russia and basically eliminated Russia from Gold medal contention.
The Armenian team should really take the US team out to dinner because they defeated the Czech 3-1 and practically secured the Gold with Russia’s loss. This further proves that the Armenian team work, camraderie and national pride plays a big role in their incredible success in the Olympiad.
The US women’s team is leading Slovenia 1.5-.5 at the moment with Zatonskih in a pawn up Rook and Pawn endgame.
The Russian women defeated Georgia 2-1 while Ukraine defeated Bulgaria 2.5-1.5 to extend the lead over Russia to 1 full point with 2 rounds to go.
GO USA!
Go, USA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
What an incredible result! I hope they continue in the same manner until the end, winning the last to matches!

A trivia question for Susan and fellow bloggers: When was last time team USA beat russia in Team Chess Olympiad tournament?
Where can I go to see the games. I’m at work and don’t want to down load an icc board.
FIDE Election: Kirsan Ilyumzhinov re-elected

We got alot of Tigers in the tanks
GO USA!!!!!!
Armenia is cool. Where is Armenia?
USA’s russians beat Russia’s russians. Good!
NO. US JAPANESE BEAT RUSSIAN’S RUSSIAN.
Chess makes people happy. But it makes some sad too, doesn’t it?
Any comments from Bobby n the Olympiad and Elections?
Well, now the US has to play Armenia while I think the other top medal contenders have already played Armenia, so US still has a huge hurdle to overcome if they want to stay in medal contention. Still, it’s very impressive win, especially considering it seemed the U.S. were pressing on board 1 and 2 and Russia had to hang on to make draws.
Where can I see the games from this round? Like Kamsky’s game?
USA-Armenia 4-0. Is this possible?
Well, the Armenians also have a hard partying spirit. That also fosters teamwork.
Kosteniuk carried the Russian team to victory this round!
Wow! We beat the defending world team champions!!!!!
Our men’s team isn’t playing Armenia! We’re playing Israel!
Susan
Grischuk made a ??? move with 43… f x g6
The winning move is 43… Bxg3
Eliminating the last king’s defender and open row to a mating attack with the heavy pieces.
Here is some trivia for you from a chess fan who traveled to Torino as a spectator:
1= all of the US team dressed formally except Kaidinov. Top 3 boards all had orange ties… maybe to support Kok?
2. Kaidinov wore a cool rock and roll t shirt…
3. The Onischuk game was really exciting, as they were under time pressure at the end…
Also, Susan, could you analyze the R and P endgame of Zatonskih”s for us fans? I could not figure out why her opponent gave up a b pawn.

Susan: “This further proves that the Armenian team work, camraderie and national pride plays a big role in their incredible success in the Olympiad.”
This quote of yours validates my point that a coach is not required for a team’s success at the Olympiad. It might help and sometimes it may harm too, but it is not required.
Sorry, I meant Captain.
You are entitled to your opinion. A good captain creates good atmosphere for the team among countless other very difficult tasks.
Best wishes,

Susan this is your blog and of course u can write as u wish but i noticed a big lapse in consistenty. You say “Kramnik held on for a draw, svideler forced a draw, bareev etc… and just Nakamura defeating Grischuk… well that was the craziest game of the entire match and a pivotal game as well. Shouldnt you have said something about that game too… like Nakamura gets lucky or Grischuk blunders in winning position and then blunders again in drawn position and losses. I await your reply, thanks
What are you taking about? Did you read what she wrote carefully?
