The 8th Poikovsky Tournament is taking place right now. The event this year is a strong FIDE category 17 event. US Champion Alexander Onischuk is the only American in this event.

Onischuk may be the only American in the event, but for me it is refreshing to have an American in a strong international event. I don’t think that playing in Swiss System tournaments, even the tough international events, helps players develop as well as this kind of tournament.
