Bg6 is mate in 3, but wheres the tactic? What did Tommy play. Thanks Susan for all your hard work on this site. I very much enjoy it and visit it every day.
After reviewing my Wildland Firefighting Incident Response Guide, I have determined that Bg6 is infact a tactic.
Tactic: Deploying and directing resources on an incident to accomplish the objectives designated by the overall strategy.
Chess has a funny way of relating to many other aspects of life. I truly do love it!
ya just a couple ways to mate
Bg6+ Rxg6
Qxg6+ Kh8
Nf7
Bg6+ Kh8
Qf8+ Rg8
Nf7
just a side note about tactics. i was reading things about fischer and he made the statement tactics flow from positions. I thought about that then thought well doesnt position flow from strategy and tactics flow from positions.so the best strategy should give you the best chance to win a game because it creates sound positions from which tactics come from.
strategy->strong positons-> tactics

“White to move. This is a game from Tommy. How SHOULD he continue?”
I suppose he gave up, without found Fg6 lol

The second line doesn’t work. Since the rook is now on g8 black can play 3. — Kg7 and white has some more work to do.
The correct solution for this line is:
1. Bg6+ Kh8
2. Nf7+ Kg8
3. Qf8 mate

Yoo-hoo! — Wolverine, didn’t u claim to be 2600-strength undiscovered Grandmaster?
Did u get shot in the head by an Iraqi sniper? Cuz you’re mentally regressing to beginner books and three-move-mate puzzles…
uhm, yogi…
“Since the rook is now on g8 black can play 3. — Kg7 and white has some more work to do.”
3..Kg7 is kind of a funny move since the queen is at f8. not quite legal and all…
how can black play Kg7. the queen is obviously covering that square.
to answer tournaments of lowlifes. i never claimed i was 2600 in chess. i said i was 2600 in checkers never said that about chess. furthermore i said ive beaten some computer programs such as gnu 5.07 and arasan 9.3 but there not fritz level programs. where do you come up with these lies you lowlife. i never ever said that. you cant even read what someone says then just shut your mouth. if your going to quote me then at least do it properly.

1.Bg6+
a) 1…Rxg6 2.Qxg6 Kh8 3.Nf7#
b) 1…Kh8 2.Nf7+ Kg8 3.Qd8#
c) 1…Kg8 2.Qd8#
Alternative to b) is 2.Qf8+ Rg8 3.Nf7# (Question of taste…; I prefer the back rank mate pattern which is actually the same in b) and c))
There is a german citation about tactic that I like but I can’t translate it in french (my native language) or in english (If you can: let me know):
Tactic ist nicht alles aber ohne tactic alles is nichts
(Tactic is not all but wihtout tactic all is nothing (doesn’t sound good to me; would a native speaker try to translate it for me; thanks)
Wow! Tommy will be great chessplayer i belive, have offer knight and rook and make matt that class!!

Wolvy-babe, you implied that you were grandmaster strength, not the 1350 you appear to be here. Here you are, solving chess puzzles like a kid, LOLZ.
your not even worth responding to you degenerate. your just an un skilled slob. so in reality your criticizing susan for making easy problems. i get enjoyment from 3 move mates 8 move mates or 10 move mates. I dont look at problems as to easy so i wont do it. what kind of attitude is that. im not conceited like your slimy self. what an arrogent joke your are.

Tommy was one move away from being checkmated so he was very cool under pressure.
