Ahmed Adly was one of the early leaders at the World Championship. But after a couple losses, he fell out of 1st place. But a strong finish gave him the prestigious World Junior Championship title, 1/2 point ahead of Ivan Popov of Russia. Pre-tournament favorites such as Wang Hao, Stellwagen and Laznicka all under performed.
