Dallas, TX (AHN) – A “final four” championship ends Sunday with a win for the University of Maryland, Baltimore County after a weekend of intense competition on the chess board.
UMBC defeated the University of Texas at Dallas 9-8 at the Final Four of intercollegiate chess. The title has ping ponged between the two schools since the competition started six years ago.
Jim Stallings, UTD associate chess director, says, “It should come as no surprise that the U.S. college chess title again came down to a battle between UTD and UMBC. We congratulate UMBC on a hard-fought victory and look forward to renewing our rivalry next season.”
Miami-Dade College placed third with 5 points and Duke University finished fourth with 2 points.
