Dylan and Tommy both finished with the score of 5.5 / 7. Dylan started out 5/5. With a little more experience, he could contend for the title next time. He ended up tying for 5th (7th in tie break for 2nd grade) in his second National Event and Tommy tied for 6th (7th in tie break for 1st grade) in his first ever National Championship. Another student of mine James Shao also scored 5.5 / 7 and he tied for 7th. Congrats to all three!

Nice going guys. I am proud of both of you also.
That is a wonderful achievement that will warm your heart all your life.

CONGRATS to all three…and their teacher!
Was it just a month ago we saw a picture of Tommy being consoled by the world’s most famous CHESS MOM after facing Gata Kamsky?
Now look at the rewards of his efforts. Those are BIG trophies!
Wow! This must be the year of the triple 7!

Susan:
I was wondering– what’s more difficult ? Playing 300 plus boards in a simultaneous — or being a Chessom?
I’m sorry I didn’t get a chance to say hello in Houston. Maybe we’ll see you in Denver in the spring.

Hi Brad,
Being a chess Mom is definitely much harder than playing a 300 board simul 🙂
I will definitely be in Denver and Orlando. See you there.
Best wishes,
