1. Re6 h5 fails to 2. Rf6#!

1.Re6 Nxe6 2.Bd3#
1.Re6 bxc4 2.Rf6#
Not only 2. Nh6# is threatened but also 2. Rf6#, so h5 is no defence.
It took me a long time to find it though I have seen this trick earlier.
I don’t think I would have found it now if I hadn’t seen it in the past – very nice combination – short, clear and hidden!
Greetings
Jochen
b4 is the best for White with the idea of Ad3
1. Re6 h5

1.Re6 H5 2. Rf6

re6 h5!!! rf6 mate!!!!!
i am new to chess…
and i like your blog..
sadly you just give a problem but you never inform us the solution
how will i know whether am i right or wrong
What about
1. Re6 Rhf8
Now 2. Rf6 loses, and 2. Bd3 is met by 2….Kd3
I think a little more work needs to be done, since Re6 does not seem to finish the game.
Esti,
1. Re6 Rf8
2. Nh6++

Re6 Nxe6
Bd3++
Re6 Rf8
Nh6++
i just looked at it from the perspective how do i get my rook on f6 because that would lead to mate. then saw Re6. if he takes me i mate with Bd3. if he decides to cover f6 with Rf8 i mate with Nh6.i never considered black playing h5 because of wanting my rook on f6 although thats a possibility.
