Chess Daily News from Susan Polgar
Great coverage Susan, but why does it take so long to get access to the post game interviews? Sometimes they take days to come out and sometimes they never come out at all…
I’d also like to know if most people see the match as even now or as Kramnik a game ahead. Does anyone really think Kramnik will play tie-breaks if he ends up with one more over-the-board win?
Regards,
Alan
I see the match now as Kramnik having draw odds. If they end up even( as in nominally plus 1 for Topalov) and Kramnik threw away a game by not showing up( Topalov’s appeal was unjustified but this was still not the way to do it, I guess) than Topalov won the match with an asterisk. I doubt the problems created by this will be too bad. If Kramnik is nominally even than from my point of view, he really won the match, even if he goes on to lose in tie breaks. This will cause an incredible schism and will be the worst outcome imaginable for chess. Funnily enough and by the fortune that WC chess has experienced recently, this is somehow an inevitable result. The best is either a Topalov +2(when Kramnik will only cry about unethical treatment etc and no one will care that much) or a Kramnik win(this is what I personally hope for).

I think. Stop whining, both of you, and play chess.
Very wecome and thanks to you Susan Queen of the games
boris spassky was in san francisco and his opinion of the problem is stated by chessbase.
“During his talk to the general public Boris spoke about the Kramnik-Topalov match and compared the scandals in this event to incidents in other World Championships. He made it very clear that Bobby Fischer’s actions in Reykjavik were in no way to be compared to what is going on Elista. He stressed that Bobby’s disputes were with the organizer, never with the opponent, unlike Topalov’s attacks, which are directed against his opponent on the board. Spassky made it unequivocally clear that his support is with Kramnik, and that he doesn’t consider Topalov’s actions to be proper.”
this is a thanks from Susan post she is saying thanks..
so a littke thank you would be nice
Look at this disgraceful Topalov interview. He really is the villain of the chess world.

Even Bulgarian Prime Minister is sick of Topalov’s shenanigans: http://www.worldchess2006.com/main.asp?id=1100
He wants all games to be played on the board. Even Bulgarians are turning against their “hero”.
Has Topalov gone insane? Was 24…f6 a sign of things to come? Just look at that interview.
I see nothing wrong with his interview. Kramnik is the arrogant one.
I think Topalov and company should have much to be ashamed about, but I don’t see anything wrong with that interview. Both Kramnik and Topalov have been wonderfully candid in their interviews, in my opinion.

Kramnik has made many insulting comments (“his pieces arrived at the right place by chance”, “he was lucky”, etc.) but his fans do not like to be reminded of this facet of their champion. The most revealing act by Kramnik (as a reflection of his true character) was his stabing in the back of Kasparov. After Kasparov helped him trough all his career, chose him undeservedly (after Kramnik lost to Shirov in the candidates) for the title match, etc., Kramnik refused to give him the rematch. Topalov, on the other hand, sticks with his friends (even when they damage him over and over again like Dainalov), he could have distanced himself from them but instead (even knowing how unpopular this is) he backs them up. This is a show of true character and principle. Topalov’s characterization of Kramnik as a selfish scoundrel is right in the money.
Thank you Susan for giving us an alternative to the increadibly biased Chessbase, you deserve much more success than they have!
Many people at ChessBase are my friends. I also have many friends on Kramnik as well as Topalov’s camp. They are all entitled to their opinions. I am not trying to convince anyone of anything.
I try to listen to the real stories directly from both sides and not through articles I read. Things are a lot deeper than what 99% of what the readers realize. As I said earlier, I give my fair and balance news and reports. It is up to the readers to make their own conclusions.
Best wishes,
