T.H. Rogers’ chess team wins top prize in Nashville

It’s another crown for T.H. Rogers’ chess team.

Just a few months after having its eighth-grade team declared national champs at the U.S. Chess Federation’s tournament, T.H. Rogers’ fifth graders snagged the title this weekend at the National Chess Championship in Nashville.

The team — made up of five fifth-graders — took first place in the K-5 category. Sponsored by the U.S. Chess Federation, the 2,100-player tournament is the largest chess championship in the country for elementary students.

“They’re all giddy,” said parent Martha Jenkinson, who runs the program.
