1. Bxg7+ Kg8
2. Bf6+ and black queen dies of unnatural causes.
If 1. … Qxg7
2. Qd8+#
last move should have been 2. Qe8#
Susan, I wonder if this was the fastest response to any of your chess puzzles? (4 minutes after being posted)
Let me correct both my last postings:
1. Bxg7+ Kg8
2. Bf6+ Kf8
3. Qxh6+ Kg8
4. Qh8#
All black moves are forced.
Seems like we all got it: Sunday night chess tactic
1. Bxg7+ Kg8
2. Bf6+ Kf8
3. Qxh6+ Kg8
4. Qh8#
or
3. ……Qg8
4. Qxg8#
The mate is important. Simply taking the queen as proposed in the first post ends in a disaster for white.
Black’s up enough material and especially the a pawn (in conclusion with the white king’s threatened by mate) gives him the win.
So maybe the first answer was a very quick one but not a very good one. 🙂
