The above Karpov – Gorbachev picture was taken at the Chess For Peace event in Lindsborg
On May 26, 2006, Karpov and Spassky played a mini rapid (15′ 3″) match in Corsica. Spassky won the match by the score of 1.5 – .5. The first game was drawn. With the White pieces, Spassky won the second game in a Bishop and Pawn endgame. He was able to take advantage of Karpov’s error.

Hmm Spassky beats Karpov. Fischer beat Spassky twice in Matches. I wonder if this will add sufficient evidence that Bobby would have beat Karpov in 75.

Why does Spassky look like Gorbachev?
😉
See, even two old rivals can play chess for fun!
Karpov admits that Fischer would have beat him in 1975.
nice play Boris.
I love these ego comments. like Spassky never was better than Karpov and I am surprised he won.
Maybe Boris Spassky is a good chess player and fine sportsman.
Like I always say. Let the best man win. and spassky won.
Thats Spasky wioth Karpov?!?…..man he looks like hell
aw cmon…..spasky…good for him I seem to remember Karpov beating Kasparov in a similar micro match a few years ago….its a crapshoot…thats all…just fun.
“man he looks like hell”
Spassky was the favorite chess player of hundreds of ladies.
“Maybe Boris Spassky is a good chess player and fine sportsman.”
That’s why Spassky lost to Fischer. Can’t be nice and win, too, at that level.
Some really ridiculously stupid comments. “Spassky was never a better player than Karpov”? Hello….. Spassky beat Karpov! He must be at least his equal, and hes an old man now! Older than Karpov is too! “Mini tournaments are just a crapshoot”. I would think shorter matches would favor the better player, because there would be no fatigue factors, psychological factors, and no stress. At least Spassky won the Title the legitimate way. He earned it! It wasn’t arranged by the Russian controlled FIDE because they couldnt bare the reality that an American was the best chess player in The World!! For the clueless that is not Spassky in the photo that is Gorbachev!! When were some of you born? Five years ago? lol.

Also addressing the comment about Karpov beating Kasparov in a mini tournament a few years ago. Karpov beat Kasparov in The World Title Match also. If you cant remember or werent born yet check the history books. Some people think that Kasparov is God at chess, well I beg to differ. Kasparov wouldnt be near as good a player as he was if not for the advent of super micro processing computers. If he had to depend on his own creativeness, logic, and own calculations Fischer would have outplayed him every time! Kasparov also was no where near the end game player Bobby was and was prone to silly blunders at times!

It is great they played and I am so glad Spassky won! Spassky was one of the all time great chess players and World Champion. If you can ever read his book on his best 400 games you will be amazed at the treasure of great games you will find there. He was a universal style so you will find attacking gems, Strategic Positional beauties and endgame marvels. There is so much to learn from Spassky. Susan had the privelege of playing this wonderful man and World Champion and I am sure she treasures the memories.
Spassky was the most underated champion of all time, who never got the credit that he deserved. Nobody can take away the fact that he played in the greatest chess match in modern times, a match that caused the whole world to stop and look: Fischer vs. Spassky. Nothing has been the same since.
Spassky is cool. Karpov has a nice smile!
A lot of better Players lost to lesser good ones in mini matches. (for example Cheparinov beats Ivanchuk 1.5-0.5 in last world cup). It doen´t prove anything even if this was a rapid game. Karpov career was better than spassky one (no doubts about that) and Karpov destroyed spassky in 1974. All of this are facts so don´t say stupid things please. Sorry if i made any mistake writting in english becouse it isn´t my home language.
