Definitely sound.
1. Bxh7+, Kxh7
2. Ng5, Kg8
3. Qd3, Kg8
4. Bxc5, Qxc5
5. Qh3, with impending mate.
Sorry, that should be
1. Bxh7+, Kxh7
2. Ng5, Kg8
3. Qd3, g6
4. Bxc5, Qxc5
5. Qh3, with impending mate.
re anon. but you have to consider the typical 2…Kg6 as well (which in this case is far superior to …Kg8)
2…Kg6 3.Qc2+ f5 4.ef e.p Kxf6 5.Nxe6 Bxe3 6.Rxe3 Qxe3 7.fe Kxe6 is ok for black.
So i suggest something like 1.Qc2 instead.
To anon 12:31
1.Bxh7+ Kxh7
2.Ng5
Now if :
2…Kg8
[Not 2.Qd3 Re8 3.Qh7+ Kf8 3.Qh5Qh8+ Ke7 5.Qxg7 Be3 6.Rxe3 unclear.]
3.Qh5+ Rd8
4.Qxf7+ Kh8
5.Qh5+ Kg8
6.Qh7+ Kf8
7.Qh8+ Ke7
8.Qxg7+ Ke8
9.Qf7 #
So, what after :
1.Bxh7 Kxh7
2.Ng5 Kg6
is black ok?
well the above comment is correct, it isnt a forced win. still, there are some practical chances, and with the open black king that the correct line results in, white isn’t risking losing the game. I dont think Qc2 is a better way of playing for a win, but it does maintain a little tension I guess.
if bh7 kh7 ng5 kg6, then qg5
1Bxh7 Kxh7
2Ng5 Kg8
3Qd3 Rd8
Could hold..
1Bxh7 Kxh7
2Ng5 Kg8
3Qd3 Rd8
Could hold..
3.Qd3?
Better is of course,
3.Qh5+ Rd8
4.Qxf7+ Kh8
5.Qh5+ Kg8
6.Qh7+ Kf8
7.Qh8+ Ke7
8.Qxg7+ Ke8
9.Qf7 #
“bh7 kh7 ng5 kg6, then qg5”
Qg4 fails to Nxe5. That is the problem with white’s position:he can’t play the queen to the natural d1-h5 diagonal due to tactical reasons.
1.Bxh7+ Kxh7 2.Ng5+ Kg6
[2…Kg8 3.Qh5 Rd8 (3…Re8 4.Qxf7+ Kh8 5.Bxc5 Qxc5 6.Re3) 4.Qxf7+ Kh8 5.Qh5+ Kg8 6.Qh7+ Kf8 7.Qh8+ Ke7 8.Qxg7+ Ke8 9.Qf7#]
3.Qc2+
[3.Qd3+ f5 4.exf6+ Kxf6 5.Nxe6 Bxe3 6.Rxe3 Ne5 7.Rxe5! Bxe6 (7…Kxe5? 8.Re1+ Kd6 9.Qg3+ Kd7) 8.Rae1 Rae8 9.Qf3+ Ke7 (9…Kg6 10.Qh5+ Kf6 11.g4!+-) 10.Rxe6+ Qxe6 11.Rxe6+ Kxe6 And a not so easy endgame ahead.]
3…f5 4.exf6+ Kxf6 5.Nxe6! Bxe3 6.Rxe3 Qxe3 7.fxe3 Kxe6 Unclear endgame to follow.

3 Qh5 Re8 (not Rd8)
Might still work with loss of Rook.
3 Qh5 Re8 (not Rd8)

That line is covered in Pharaoh’s post above.
HI, everybody!
I am looking at a different variation:
1.Bxh7+ Kxh7 2. Ng5+ Kg6 3.h4?! and if 3…Bxe3 4. Re3 with the idea of Rg3…
Kamalakanta
3.Qd3+ f5 4.exf6+ Kxf6 5.Nxe6 Bxe3 6.Rxe3 Ne5 7.Rxe5! Bxe6 8.Rae1 Rae8 That is what actually happened in the game. Here i missed Qf3 and i lost!
I was the guy playing the white pieces.
