Kamsky Sniffs around World Challenger Venue

Standart News – Sofia, Bulgaria
TUESDAY, 17 February 2009

Gata Kamsky will be sniffing around National Palace of Culture’s Hall No 6 for electronic devices as well as tease the event’s organizers for all his pretences till the last minute before the first game of his World Chess Challenge match against Veselin Topalov tomorrow.

At 03:00 p.m. sharp, Bulgaria’s PM Sergey Stanishev and FIDE (International Chess Federation) President Kirsan Ilyumzhinov will make the opening moves.

Gata Kamsky was questionably sparing of compliments as regards the event’s organization. “The organizers have done their best to create conditions for a good match.

I wouldn’t like to comment this any further,” Kamsky explained and admitted it was impossible to hold the Challenger in the US.

“We are happy to come and play in Sofia,” he added. “I’ve waited for this match for over a year,” Topalov confessed.

He said he didn’t go through any special training to be able to face Kamsky and expressed his approval of the conditions. “I don’t care about the system to play. You either play well or bad,” Topalov added.

He did not wish to say if he surpassed his opponent or not. The official opening and the draw took place late last night.
