  Yeah for sure 1. Nxf5. If 1.. gxf5 then 2. Qf6+ Kh5 3. Qg5#. A better defense is for the king to run like the dickens – 1.. Kh5 then maybe 2. Qf6 Kg4 3. Qg5+ Kf3 4. Nd4+ winning the black queen and I’m sure there’s a quick mate involved somewhere but it’s at least assured from there.

  I thought it was agreed here that we would show the mates. this is not about first moves. this is not about knowing it must be there somewhere. this is about practice calculating to find the mate.

  1 Nxf5 Kh5
  2 Qf6 Kg4
  3 Qg5 Kf3
  4 Nd4+ Ke3 is only move
  5 f5 mate a very pretty mate

  1. Nxf5 Kh5 is forced because taking with the pawn leads to mate
  2. Qf6 and it’s mate next move.
