Too altruistic to become a world champion.

No I am not, and will never be, a Nakamura fan.
Don’t adopt your style to your fan it it will bring disaster to your tournament results.
He isn’t altruistic. This is just a piece of self-serving nonsense that his subconscious thinking figured might make him look good after losing 3 games in a row and blowing his opportunity for a really big tournament win.
But he isn’t actually telling a lie. His subconscious will have persuaded him that he is in it only for the fans, and today he will be believing it. We all do this, justifying ourselves when we stuff up.
My impression of this guy is that he is actually very self centred and isn’t in it for anyone except his own glory
win or lose his games are never boring. if you’re not a fan nobody cares.
Self-serving or not, it’s one of the few Nakamura statements that makes some sense. His games are more interesting that those of most other super-GMs.
The people who “swing for the fences” tend to strike out a lot.
Kamsky is way, way better than Nakamura in chess and demeanor.
to the two anons who didn’t really appreciate my earlier post, I do acknowledge what you say about Nakamura’s games being interesting and good for the spectators. And you are right, the fact that I don’t like him much as a person doesn’t change the fact that he is good for world chess
