I took this picture last weekend when I visited my family
Budapest is where I was born and raised. It is a city with rich culture, landmarks, history and chess tradition. I am planning to organize a very unique and personal tour to Budapest next summer where chess enthusiasts can visit some of the most spectacular locations (even where the Polgar sisters grew up) as well as learn (and perhaps even play) chess from some of the Hungarian Chess Legends such as GMs Pal Benko, Lajos Portisch, and possibly the Polgar sisters, etc.

This sounds so exciting! I like it!
Would this be something like the chess cruise Susan or like a more personal tour group led by you? I’ve always wanted to visit Europe anyway.
This is something I do myself. I will personally conduct the tour of Budapest, the way how I see it 🙂
Best wishes,

It sounds really fun. One day, I will definitely visit Europe. And from what I’ve read, Hungary is very underrated in terms of art, culture, etc. No doubt, it would be extremely educational to visit.
I first went to Budapest in the early 1980’s, and several times more recently.
I cannot recommend it highly enough as a place to visit, even without the chess element it really is spectacular.
My best memories are of eating amazing foie gras and drinking fantasic wine from Tokaj, which to me are better than 90% of the Sauternes you pay hundreds of dollars for.
Sell what ever you have to in order to make the trip!! Its a great opportunity.
Phil sounds good to me.
I would love to go. I know it will be such fun.
Portisch and Benko both were opponents of Bobby Fischer! Many great games were played between them. I would love to see Budapest and play the famous Polgar sisters even if I did recieve Q odds lol. Susan did you get to see you’re sister Judith before she left for Italy?
TFK
Budapest is one of the most beautiful cities in Europe.
She did not leave for Italy. She will give birth in about 5-6 weeks 🙂
Best wishes,

Thank you all for the kind comments about my hometown Budapest. It is a very special city, not because it is where I was born and raised, but because of its deep heritage.
I would like this tour to be so different than anything else you have ever experienced. I will try to give everyone my view of Budapest 🙂
Best wishes,

Budapest is a beautiful chess city. You see famous Grandmasters riding the subway or walking down the street.
Susan, how many people can sign up for the tour?
I am working on the details now. I am working to get hotels in great locations (middle of everything). As soon as I finalize that, I will make an announcement.
It will be between 50 and 100 people maximum. No more. I want everyone to be able to enjoy the wonderful experience.
Best wishes,
Susan Polgar

Susan: This tour sounds like a great, great idea. My father’s parents came from Budapest and he has never been there. Would there be an opportunity to explore some areas of Jewish historical interest?
nyc Mom, yes 🙂

Csokolom Susan, I’ve been to Budapest several times and it’s great, it’s my favorite city. I stayed in the school dormitory on Bartók Béla street which is a youth hostel during the summer. But I thought both you and Sofia had moved away. And Judit is about to have another kid?! She was just in a tournament recently, I thought. Anyway, the Hungarian Banjo Kings is a great band if you like jazz. I wanted to go to Budapest this year just to hear them (well, other reasons too), but some other stuff came up instead.
Susan: The McClanahan kids would love to come given that their mother’s side of the family all came from Hungary in ’56. In fact, Grandma just returned from Budapest today (she was there while the boys were playing at Nationals in Colorado!). It would be a wonderful way to introduce them to the country as well as to the international chess scene.
Budapest and chess! If i could get some time off work i know i would love to go, especially if i could get a game with the legendary Paul Benko.
Hi,
It’s a great Idea. I am french and I hope to join your tour.
See you at this trip,
Dudule
