Entertainer Lee Greenwood took time off Monday to attend a chess tournament in which his 10-year-old son, Parker, was a participant.

Today, he will be here with his 13-year-old son, Dalton, to welcome President George W. Bush and Laura Bush home after eight years in Washington.

“I’ve been a friend of the Reagans and the Bush family for a long time and have worked many presidential events in and out of Washington and around the country,” Greenwood said during a telephone interview with the Reporter-Telegram. “I knew President Bush, the father, No. 41. I’m excited to get to see him as well. He will be there to welcome his son home from D.C.”

Greenwood is pleased “to be at that homecoming when President Bush will come home to a crowd of adoring Americans, and I get to sing for him, as I have for his father and President Reagan. It’s just a great homecoming for a president who’s been under fire unjustly because he’s done a lot for America.”

George Bush and his wife, Laura, are such a classy couple. I think he brought such dignity to the White House, where his predecessor did not. I think the leftists were so adamant about replacing him: They threw so many darts at him I’m amazed he could keep his dignity and not throw darts back at them.”

Greenwood was honored to be asked to perform at the homecoming.
