yes this is for 2006. Not 2007. For 2007, I suppose it will be Anand for winnning Corus and Mexico. But Kramnik has won Tal and Dortmund. Should be close, but Anand will win it I suppose.
I can’t see how Anand wouldn’t be awarded the 2007 Chess Oscar.
He got better results than Kramnik and Topalov this year, and he is now the reigning World Champion.
Anand did not win Corus. Topalov, Aronian and Radjabov did. Anand won Linares.
Kramnik was 4th at Corus and 2= at Mexico. So his record is spotty too.
But Anand won the one that counted. This should be decisive.
this year is not over. World Cup is ongoing plus Russian superfinal in Dec
And Kramnik missed that mate-in-one.
Surely a guy that misses a mate-in-one can’t be given an oscar!

Everyone wants to give it to Anand because he won the WC, but Ivanchuk couldn’t play in that tournament. If Ivanchuk wins the World Cup, he should get it for 2007. he is crushing people and playing brilliantly. His presence at the board scares strong GMs.
