The chess world just went through an entire day without another ridiculous press release or open letter from either side! That is a big improvement! Does that mean that we will finally see some exciting chess without the petty mind games? Or does it mean that both sides ran out of things to complain about?
This will be a very critical game!
Kramnik once again has Black. But he seems to be able to comfortably reach equality in his last three Black games. He needs to bounce back strong after a disastrous 8th game. He cannot afford to lose this game. A victory would certainly go a long way in obtaining the match victory and a draw would also be fine as he will have 2 games with White in the final three.
Topalov finally registered his first win on the board in the 8th game. He needs to ride the momentum and try to win another game on the board. Unless he can outscore Kramnik on the board, most of the chess world will not recognize his title. He has something to prove!
The pressure is mounting for both players. There are only 4 games remaining. Which one will handle it best? Game 9 will begin at 3 PM Elista time and 7 AM New York time. I will be right here with the LIVE commentary!
By the way, 71,119 chess fans (unique logins) followed the commentary right here on game 8! It proves that in spite of all the chaos, you still enjoy good chess!
An entire day without a ridiculous press release?
Wrong!
FIDE posted on the official match site a shameless press release with the title “The match starts anew!” thereby hinting at the 4-4 tie taking into consideration the point stolen from Kramnik
Are FIDE, Topalov and Danailov planning on repeating the theft until Kramnik cannot replenish the stolen points?
E-4..zac..zac..mate..1-0 with plenty of fierworks
Mr Kramnik was not willing to play game 5 without access to his computer that was kept in the bathroom. He therefor forfeited the game to Mr. Topolov. Mr Kramnik is lucky the FIDE officials did not award all of the first 4 games to Topolov as it was proven Kramnik matched Fritz’s moves almost 80% of the time. This last victory was really Topolov’s 6th victory. Unless Mr Kramnik can win the next 4 games without using a computer, which is unlikely, I say Topolov is already the winner! say Topolov
71119 WOW a NEW GUINNERSS RECORD CONCRATULATION SUSAN and Well Done
If “the match starts anew” then the old match is won by Kramnik over the board 4-3
Hey, anonymeos !
I can’t believe that anyone is
quoting these percentages !
They prove absolutely nothing.
Just bother to read Kramnik’s
reply or read anything else written
by someone whith master strength.
Even Danailov himself doesn’t
claim that these numbers prove
anything. It is so obvious that
this is just another dirty trick.
This paranoid stuff destroys chess !

“Are FIDE, Topalov and Danailov planning on repeating the theft until Kramnik cannot replenish the stolen points?”
C’mon, crybaby, Kram will have another chance in 2 years, in the meantime he can try changinf his opening systems to something more chessy.
Yes, that piece “The match starts anew!” was quite bizarre for something on an official site. It would be perfectly appropriate for a short opinion piece on an independent website, but official sites are normally very careful about what they say about contestants in a competition. This piece is blatantly trying to spin the match in Topalov’s direction.
I’m surprised FIDE made its bias so obvious. If I were Kramnik’s lawyer, I’d be delighted.
Hi everyone and thanks Susan for your work on commenting the games – this really helps us get an idea of what is really going on on the board.
I know most of the chess fans are outraged over the “dirty tricks” employed in this WCC match and so am I, even being a great fan of Topy.
I think however that there is something really positive for the chessword however from a PR perspective. Chess is back in the news! And a good part of Susan’s over 70 000 readers are the result of this PR.
Chess has now become a spectacular game (like soccer) and people from all over the world – even if they do not play chess at all are following the match with great interest.
So, at the end of the day, I wonder whether the whole circus is not just an ingenius PR strategy aiming at attracting a lot of people to our noble sport and thus generate great profits and great sponsors ?
Just trying to think positive… 😉
Dear Vesco..to compare chess with soccer….Here in Australia chess is somthing weirdos do in the local news papers and TV networks there is no mention of chess ever ..the word Fisher means nothing..Just to a few followers here were I live of 50000 people there is no chess club
The essential question is : Who is paying for this site ? How does Susan make money out of this ? She doesn’t sell chess software or training DVDs like ChessBase does. She does not have any members like ChessBase does. Where does the income come from ?
Anonymous,
Good question. It should take lots of bandwidth (therefore money) to accomodate 71199 people.
I guess that Google is paying :-). After all, they own blogger.com.
susan you are still bias with your statements.. just to remind you ;topalov is the fide champion still and you play chess under fide. maybe your motto should read :GENS UNAS KRAMNIK SUMUS
Marcin,
By the same logic you can claim that Google is paying all the expenses of the web sites plus all the expenses for the equipment that the ISPs have and all the expenses for the backbone, simply the whole internet because their business is so much dependent on the existence of them. That’s not the way things work. So money for this site should be coming from somewhere else.
Dear Anonynmous,
I’m not quite sure what’s your point, but still… Google owns blogger.com – they own the infrastructure of blogger.com (servers etc.) and they pay for the bandwidth generated by the site. So all server and bandwidth costs are covered by Google. susanpolgar.blogspot.com is hosted by blogger.com, which means that whatever the traffic, it does not cost the owner of the website (Susan) a dime.
As for other costs, like Susan’s time, it’s none of my business…
Marcin
Congratulations on the uniques:)
Topalov’s site reports that they expect d4 from Topalov. What do you think Susan?
Given the amount of argument the various press releases have caused, I hate to think what the modern world would have made of the Fischer Spassky match…
hoddy,
you keep on claiming that topalov will switch to play e4 and will crush Kramnik. And topalov is not playing e4 against Kramnik. There should clearly be something you can’t understand.
They’re tied now…Topalov and Danailov have nothing to complain about at the moment. Just wait until Kramnik wins another game…
Vlastop is clearly the aggresive player. He dares, takes risk. His sense for creating positional imbalance sublime. An exciting player producing fireworks on board. If unable to find explosive move on stage, elsewhere he ignites moves. Enthusiasts and media are sensationally alive. Vlastop transforms the chessdom.
Vlakra thrives on sober ground. He abstain venture moves. His technique for positional order deprives tactical growth. Enthusiasts and media sort his playing genre as defense oriented. This genus can be perceived dreary. For remaining calm amidst citations the international chess front asserted their unconditional support. Vlakra is foster as worthy champion.
Vastop and Vlakra, the elite woodpushers, hero or villain deserve to be joint champion. On their remaining sanction games each could settle for safe draws. A deadlock on score will seal their fate. FIDE has contingency rules and could influence the conclusion.
Susan, it is a pleasure joining your festive forum. You could be the version Oprah for hosting chess entertainment. Do you have staff assisting your blog works?
My respects,
JCS
JCS,
My staff consists of 2 person, me and another friend. He scans the Internet for news, updates and provide some pictures. I do the commentary, analysis, post and sometimes mess around with pictures. Neither one of us gets a penny for this. We both love chess and just want to do something for the fans. That’s it.
Thanks for the kind words.
Best wishes,
Susan Polgar
