New Delhi: Viswanathan Anand overcame a smart game from Veselin Topalov to earn a 58-move draw in the seventh game of the World Chess Championship in Sofia on Monday. After the 58-move draw Anand leads 4-3 in the 12-game match.

Topalov was at his gritty best as he was determined to test Anand in a special variation in the Catalan when he sacrificed an exchange on move 12 to get a counter-attack for black.

The seventh round was one of the exciting ones where Anand tried his best to press for a win at the death for a victory after struggling with time trouble and a solid game by Topalov.

On Tuesday, Topalov will start with white pieces.
