Kasparov vs. Magnus Carlsen. Pay-per-view millions of dollars guaranteed.
Can they be allowed to play these games unrated since Kasparov is retired. Or would this be considered a comeback and the games be rated.
Coolishish! 😀
Karpov will win again.
It’s blitz/rapid games. So they are unrated of course. It’s just exhibition match but interesting one.
Karpov,
The last World Champion whose success did not entirely depend on the openings his team prepared.
Of course Karpov had lots of help, but he could play any position.
Look at Kasparov’s matches with Short and Anand: the lopsided margins were because of all of Garry’s home cooking—not because of huge superiority over the board.
The playing field is much more level in that respect now.
Dude, home preparation is as much a part of modern chess as is a terrific serve in tennis. Just because one world champion thinks out most of his lines at the board doesn’t make him better than one who chooses to cut down on over-the-board labor by doing some extra homework.
It is like taking college-level calculus and not solving practice problems at home. You’d only get to the exam hall and be dazed by ‘combinations and sacrifices’ from the teacher. :o)
Kasparov is going to turn Karpov into a pinata, simple as that!
25th anniversary? Then you mean 1984, Susan, not 1994.
I am extremely excited to get to see my greatest hero(Karpov of course) go face to face against his mighty rival once more. This is fantastic news.
Wonderful News !!!
Karpov vs Kaparov Match 7 – ( yes this will be their 7th Match count there New York rapid match)

you’re missing the point.
Kasparov had a huge state subsidized team which gave him a secret library of opening innovations. His success in MANY of his WC games depended entirely on his ability to remember the work of others, and not at all on his playing ability per se.
Kasparov nearly killed chess.
Ironically, computers have revived chess to a certain degree; however, it is still a morbid sport.
Go is much more successful, interseting and creative, these days.
Did you know that there are go problems from 300 years ago which are not solved to this day? I only learned this recently.
When chess is played on a 19×19 board, it will become interesting again.
Of course garry gunna win unless he falls asleep at the board, its clear karpov not serious about the competitve form of chess anymore, should be fun anyway ! hehe.
I can’t have nothing but a huge respect for Karpov. He’s older, and it seems like he’s a bit more likely to lose. He knows lots of people will still view it through the political prism. Still he doesn’t care, and he doesn’t steer away from the fight.
I support Kasparov’s politics (with minor deviations) but to me this just proves what a titan Karpov is.
Funny how the old “opponent of the the Soviet regime”,now open-facedly decrares himself a Bolshevik.
I always knew that Kasparov was the bad guy.
He has always been a member of the Soviet Communist Party.
How silly westeners were asnd still are 😉
