The city of Caracas, capital of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, will host the First Match Cup between Venezuela #1 chess player GM Eduardo Bonelli Iturrizaga (2646) and the Genius of Riga GM Alexei Shirov(2683).
The event will take place from 6th to 12th November 2014 and it will be accompanied by a GM round-robin tournament, consisting of 10 players, where top seed will be the Russian GM Aleksandr Rakhmanov (2636). You can see the full list of participants below.
The venue of the chess festival will be 5-Star Hotel Tamanaco Intercontinental*****. The round-robin tournament will be played in a 9-round format, valid for GM and IM norms with a tempo of play 90′ + 30″, while the highlight of the event, the match between the “fire on the board” and Venezuelan #1 will be held in 6 rounds.
The time control for the match will be 90 minutes for 40 moves plus 30 minutes for the rest of the game plus 30 seconds increment starting from move one. In case of a tie, the opponents will play an additional blitz match, followed by an Armagedon game if needed.
