Georgian sport journalists association awarded the best sportsmen in café ‘World Sport’.

The best sportsman of the year was named, Olympic champion Judaist Irakli Tsirekidze. Team of Georgian women chess players was recognized as the best team of the year.

Top ten of the best sportsmen entered wrestlers Revaz Mindorashvili, Manuchar Kvirkvelia, Giorgi Gogshelidze, Otar Tushishvili, shooter Nino Salukvadze, chess player Maia Chiburdanidze, Judaist Zaza Kedelashvili and Varlam Liperteliani, rugby player Mamuka Gorgodze.

President of Sport journalists association Elguja Berishvili states that 2008 was successful year for Georgian sport.

‘Georgia was the most successful on Olympic Games after it’s been taking part with status of independent team. Team of Rugby Players won one cup, women’s team of chess players won on chess Olympiad’, – Beriashvili stated.

Ceremony was supported by ‘Geocel’, ‘Olympic Star’ and ‘Isani Development Foundation’.

48 journalists took part in the survey. The association has been awarding the best 10 sportsmen since 1964.
