Qd6
1 … Qd6
2 Qd6 Ng4+
3 Kh1 Nf2+
4 Kg1 Ne4+
And Black Wins
or
1 … Qd6
2 Qd6 Ng4+
3 Kh3 Nf2+
4 Kh4 Bg5+
5 Kg5 Ne4+
And Black Wins
Therefore, White has to accept the repetition of:
1 … Qd6
2 Qd6 Ng4+
3 Kh1 Nf2+
4 Kh2 Ng4+
5 Kh1 etc
1…Qxd6 2. Qxd6 Ng4+/f2+ and White can’t avoid the repetition. If White’s king goes to h4 after 3…Nf2+ 4. Kh4 Bg5+ 5. Kxg5 Ne4+.
1. ….Qf6 wins
2. Qf6 Ng4
3. Kh3 Nf6
should be good enough to draw, and maybe enough to win.
…QxN then perpetual check!
QxN! And then perpetual with the knight and bishop or fork if KxB (g5).
qd6 qd6 ng4 draw.. if kh3 nf2 kh4 bg5…
Ng4+
b
Perhaps 1. …. Qxd6 2. Qxd6 Ng4+ 3. Kh3 Nf2+ and if White tries to escape checks by 4. Kh4, then 4. … Bg5+; 5.Kxg5 Ne4+ wins White’s Q.
okay, if i were pressed for time i’d go with:
1 Qxd6 Qxd6
setting up a perpetual:
2 Ng4+ Kh1
3 Nf2+ Kh2
4 Ng4+
etc
if black tries to escape with:
4 … Kh3
5 Nf2+ Kh4
6 Bg5+ and black is forced to take…Kxg5
which allows:
7 Ne4+ which picks up the queen on d6, giving white at least a draw
it’s worse if black goes the other way with:
3 … Kg1
4 Ne4 discovered check winning the d6 queen and keeping the bishop — white should win
(apologies if wrong — ‘analysis’ done from diagram)
1..Qxd6 2.Qxd6 N-g4+ 3.Kh3 Nf2+
4.Kh4-Bg5+ 5.Kxg5-Ne4+
Qf6
… Qxd6. Qxd6 Ng4+. if white’s king goes to h1, then repeat with Nf2. So that means Kh3, then Nf2 and to avoid repetition- Kh3.
Then Nf2 and again to avoid reps Kh4, then Bg5, white has to take Kxg5 and now black forks king and queen with Ne4.
Good for Havik! In the game, did he win, or draw?
1. … Qxd6
2. Qxd6
(if 2. Qf7+ Kh6 and white has no checks, black wins)
2. … Ng4+
now
3. Kh3 Nf2+
4. Kh4 Bg5+
5. Kxg5 Ne4+ forks the queen, wins the c-pawn, and black should win
or
3. Kh3 Nf2+
4. Hh2 Ng4+ perpetual/draw
or
3. Kh1 Nf2+
4. Kg1 Ne4+ forks the queen and black wins
1. … Qxd6
2. Qxd6 Ng4+
3. Kh3 Nf2+
4. Kh4 Bg5+
5. Kxg5 Ne4+
QxN QxQ
Ng4+ with perpetual or
…Kh3
Nf2 Kh4
Bg5+ KxB
Ne4+, winning the queen 1/2-1/2
in addition to earlier ‘analysis’ from a few hours ago:
if black wants to avoid perpetuals and forced lines after:
1 Qxd6
with:
1 … Qxe3
white simply (and very quickly) ends it with Ng4
(apologies for not seeing this before)
Susan,
please reverse colors so as to make sense of below post (so sorry):
———————————————————————-
in addition to earlier ‘analysis’:
if black wants to avoid perpetuals and forced lines after:
1 Qxd6
with:
1 … Qxe6
white simply (and very quickly) ends it with Ng4
(apologies for not seeing this before)
Qxd6
and after Qxd6 black draws with checks.
If white king wants to escape from checks, loses Queen…
Qxd6! Qxd6 Ng4+ e.g. Kh3 Nf2+ Kh4 Bg5+!
With the knight and bishop, Black could get a perpetual if the White queen were not guarding g4. So,
1. … Qxd6
2. Qxd6 Ng4+
3. Kh3 Nf2+
4. Kh2 Ng4+
With a perpetual. Can White avoid it?
1. … Qxd6
2. Qxd6 Ng4+
3. Kh3 Nf2+
4. Kh4 Bg5+
5. Kxg5 Ne4+
6. Kf4 Nxd6
7. Ke5 Nxc4+
8. Kd5 Ke3+
9. Kxc5 Kh6 and Black will sweep up the pawns for a draw.
1. … Qxd6
2. Qxd6 Ng4+
3. Kh1 Nf2+
4. Kg1 Ne4+
5. Kf1 Nxd6 and Black will win this.
