Rh6 wins yea. i got this instantly upon looking at position because i had a very similiar idea last week at the club where I had Queen on c3 bishop on b2 and black was protecting mate on g7 with knight on h5 so I played a rook to the d-file rfd1 had a pawn push to c5 and lifted rook to d6 threatening Rh6! and after a few moves my opponent resigned there was no good defense.
though i would go Qe5 straightaway instead of Qd6. Your line is forced and much stronger than 2.Qc3, which allows Rf8 (maybe only losing an exchange), I now notice.
Although I think black is lost in any of those lines after Rh6, I liked @Vohaul’s variations. I think after Qd6 trying to put black in zugzwang, 7…h6 can be an alternative 8.Qxh6+ Rh7 9.Qf6+ Rgg7 and black keeps R and B against Q in a lost position but a bit better than 7….b4 line.
^^ @lantonov – it took me 15 min to find it in my “Peter Svidler” home made database.
(i was out of my office for about 3 hours – no comp, no chess, no nothing but boring customers … hehe – i came back, logged in – saw your challange – took two or three minutes – i’m old – to find a way to visualize your presettings – i needed to switch the board – found a grunfeld main line like position – aha i thought – look to your peter svidler database – i’m a svidler fan – svidler is a grunfeld lover – and i was in the game… surprise surprise – a game against Kramnik – to be honest – obviously i had analyzed this e5 bxe5 line years ago – exactly 7 and a half years ago – so it was easy to post the line i gave… but remember – there was only little online chess in 1999…)
i’m not GREAT – i’m OLD – but my chess helps me to keep my memory at a high-capacity! ^^
greetings from germany to bulgaria – your’s Vohaul
hi susy, Rh6 and if bck takes queen then Ng6++; if not he wins queen., by the way at the USCF J.shadader should not uphold her personal blog as shes being envious (shes entitle to it, but ) how can chess progress and spread in that way))???
She should follow your example and share her blog like u do to every one. ANyway its just a though; since its restricted how is it going over there with I. krush and the knights club, any exciting games==???
I wanted to tell u and all bloggers that if u interested in watching the game alive of KRamnik vs the Machine, go to the link; elpais.com (its pretty good i recomended it((), well i feel like a GM being able to share this with u, a simple fan, good night.
do u think Kramnik will risk it tomorrow===????? bye.
Rh6 wins, no?
Qc3…Rh6…Ng6
you are good charles!
rh6 ….
ng6+ wins the b queen
Rh6 wins yea. i got this instantly upon looking at position because i had a very similiar idea last week at the club where I had Queen on c3 bishop on b2 and black was protecting mate on g7 with knight on h5 so I played a rook to the d-file rfd1 had a pawn push to c5 and lifted rook to d6 threatening Rh6! and after a few moves my opponent resigned there was no good defense.
I found a very nice line but won’t post it now because I am waiting for Vohaul to post first.
1. Rh6 Qf7 (Qe8)
2. Ng6+ Qxg6
3. Rxg6 hxg6
white has a advantageous imbalance:
Queen for rook and knight.
But material is still even.
I think Qc3 is the winning move. It seems to either win the king or the queen.
rh6, Qe8
Qc3, anything
Re1, Qf7
Re7
Hey – thx a lot @lantonov – hopefully my line will satisfy you! 🙂
1.rh6! qe8
2.re1!
(2.ng6+ qxg6 3.rxg6 hxg6 4.rd7 bc8 5.rc7 ra6 6.qd6 wins also for white but much harder i think)
2…gxh6
(2…qf7 3.re7 qe8 4.rxe8 rgxe8 5.rh5)
3.qd4+ rg7
4.rxe8+ rxe8
5.nh5 reg8
6.qd6! …
threatening 7.nxg7 rxg7 8.qb8+ with capture of the bishop
6…ba8
7.qe5!!
suddenly black is in zugzwang! any move of a piece would result in a piece loss – so only pawns can be moved.
7…b4
(7…c5 8.qxf5 b4 9.qxc5 bf3 10.nxg7 rxg7 11.qf8+)
8.axb4 c5
9.bxc5 bf3
finally the bishop could be freed…
10.nxg7 rxg7
11.qxf5 +-
…but the resulting position is absolutely hopeless for black!
(I admit to have used my little chess piece set to work it out!:)
Easy
1. Rh6 Qe8 or f7, and the other rook chases the Queen
1. …Qf7 2. Rd7
1. … Qe8 2. Re1 Qf7 3. Re7
@Vohaul
What should I say? I am completely satisfied. You have a great chess piece set that really shines out here.:)
good work, vohaul
though i would go Qe5 straightaway instead of Qd6. Your line is forced and much stronger than 2.Qc3, which allows Rf8 (maybe only losing an exchange), I now notice.
A little improvement:
1.rh6! qe8
2.re1! gxh6
3.qd4+ rg7
4.rxe8+ rxe8
5.nh5 reg8
6.qe5! Ba8
(or Bc8, or Ba6)
7.f3!
Followed by forced sequence consisting of g4,Nxg7,h5,g5 and one of the pawns reaches h6. Black has no useful moves in the meantime
above, noting that if black plays Kg8 he loses the bishop to queen checks no matter whether the bish is on a8, c8 or a6
Rd8 wins Queen
@Vohaul
As a little compensation for taking your opportunity to be the best in an earlier puzzle, here is a non-forced position that I propose you to solve:
r3r1k1/pp2ppbp/6p1/n2P2B1/4P3/5B2/q4PPP/1R1Q1RK1 w – – 0 1
I have no doubt that you’ll solve it right, but I am interested in how much time it will take you to find the right continuation.
@lantonov 🙂 nice … nice try ^^
it is Kramnik vs. Svidler (Linares 1999) a grunfeld [d85] after move 16…
Kramnik continued
17.e5 and Svidler played 17…Nc4
because
17…bxe5
18.d6 exd6
19.bd5 qa3
20.bd2! (with the threat to capture the queen! after bb4)
will lose at once after
20… nc6
21.rxb7
but Peter lost the game anyway 🙁
greetings 🙂
