Rwanda: Fide Vice President Ends Rwanda Visit
The vice president of the International Chess Federation Ali Nihat Yazici ended his three-day visit to Rwanda yesterday.
Yazici, who is the chairman of the chess in school commission, was in the country to assess the level of the game and how best it could be promoted in Rwandan schools.
While in Kigali, the Turk, met with officials in the Ministry of Education, Rwanda National Olympic Committee as well as the Rwanda Chess Federation. He was accompanied by the president of Africa Chess Federation Lakhdar Mazouz from Algeria.
The Rwandan officials, the duo met included the Minister for education Dr Vincent Biruta, who welcomed the idea of promoting the game of chess in schools.
“This is a great opportunity for us to learn from him and we hope his visit will help us get closer to the international body,” the president of the Rwanda Chess Federation Kevin Ganza said before adding, “His coming is good timing for us as we prepare a team that is going to represent the country in the fourth coming World Chess Olympiad in Tromso (Norway) this year.
