The Gus Gosselin Grade Championships last Sunday in Marlboro had 122 students and clear winners in all eight sections. The vast majority of the field were under age 12, but the Grade 8-12 section was won by Siddharth Arun of Medfield, sweeping 4-0.

Lower-grade winners were Evan Meyer (Grade 7), Eric Feng (Grade 6), Sandra Shur (Grade 5), Maxwell Zhao (Grade 4), Bernie Xu (Grade 3), Dustin Liang (Grade 2) and Derek Jin (Grades K-1). All but Zhao had 4-0 scores in their sections.

There was a three-way tie in the 10th Rufus Franklin Memorial in Worcester, with John Curdo, Michael Odell and Brett Kildahl all at 3-1. In the concurrent Fervently February Under-1700, Steven Hammond tied with Don Kirouac at 3.5-.5. The 28-player turnout was superb for the poor weather in February.
