This latest information has been confirmed by the FIDE office. This is the information on chessdom:
The FIDE office has given the latest information for Chessdom.com, “As of today, May 29, there is no money from Lviv in the bank account.” The several days extension, given by FIDE to Mr. Chernenko, has expired last week. As stated in the official rules, if no other bid makes it by April 11, the match will take place in Bulgaria. So what happens from now on?
The whole matter will be discussed during the FIDE Presidential Board meeting in Athens this weekend, 31 May – 1 June 2008. Stay tuned with Chessdom.com for the latest updates!

For the sake of Gata, I hope something can be done. He has worked hard to get to where he is and I for one would like to see something positive coming out from this. I am not sure if Gata is even involved in this process at all or if his management team is handling everything.
This is sad news for chess.
No, sad is that we have people who lie that they found sponsors.
It shows that Chernenko’s, and consequently Kamsky’s word is worth nothing. You can think what you want about Danailov, but when he says something, he stands behind his word.
This has nothing to do with Kamsky. Kamsky loses by all this. He is a chess player and would know nothing about the money and the banks. I am sure he believed and trusted in Chernenko also.
It is very sad however. Now Kamsky will be forced to pay in Bulgaria or drop out. Terrible.
Chernenko is Kamsky’s manager so he represents Kamsky. He speaks in Kamsky’s name like the lawyer speaks in your name on the court. So if Chernenko broke his word it’s the same as if Kamsky did it.
It was the same with Danailov’s accusation that Kramnik is cheating. It’s the same as if Topalov said that.
P.S.: A player is 100% responsible for the actions of his delegation.
Nobody in the US who wants to top these lousy $150k from the Bulgarians?? Is the economic situation in the US really that bad? And even if it were, there simply must be some well-heeled fruitcake left with a linking for chess … Pshaw!
Unfortunately if you wish to be World Champion and promise the money will be received by a given time, and FIDE gives a one off extension on the basis of your promise, if you still cant pony up the money as priomised, then sadly you are stuck with what was previously agreed. In this case, the match should go ahead in Sofia. If Kamsky dsiagrees to the poijnt of reconsidering his participation, then thats his decision to make. Hes been given plenty of leeway and rules are rules. If the venue of the match meant that much, the money would be there in time.
Let’s face it…Kamsky is about as trustworhy as was Fischer. To say that as a lawyer Kamsky does not understand money is the same as saying that shysters don’t grow in Manhatten.
And what’s the problem if Topalov and Kamsky should play in Bulagaria ?
The rules of the FIDE were known. The money for Bulgaria is OK.
Kamsky will not be the first sportman to play in his opponent’s country !
Just remember : if Chess wants to become a popular sport, then everyone must abide by the rules, as in any other sport.
I agree with didou (what’s the problem if the match will be played in Sofia?)
More then that, I think the victory must be sweeter for Gata there after beating their national hero.
Go Kamsky!
I just think its unfathomable that no lousy shmuck has it in ’em to cough up a mere 200 big ones for a match here. pathetic.
If you are a better chess player – you can play the match in Bulgaria, Kamsky. No problem then.
And why isn’t anyone in USA interested to hold the match?
Come on USA…
In the end, Kamsky’s gotta make a move, i.e. either accept playing in Bulgaria or finally coming up with the promised prize fund (I suspect that Team Topalov would not mind if the money arrived now, after expiration of the deadline, if the prize fund was higher than the Bulgraian offer). Should neither of these hapen shortly, FIDE should put a foot down and replace Kamsky with Shirov, as stipulated in the rules (though “rules” is a funny word in FIDE world, I know…)
I can’t understand why Kamsky would not play. Even if he loses he will make more money than most people make in a year.
I think there are many things that the public does not know about what is being discussed behind closed doors withing FIDE and on both players’ sides.
Kamsky, like him or not, certainly earned the right to play Topalov. I don’t think it should be played in Bulgaria. However, if this is the only way the match will go forward then it’s time for Kamsky to accept it and settle the matter OTB.
Money for match in Lvov are just lie. Psychological game from Kamski. In my humble opinion FIDE now must kick Kamski and replace him with Shirov. This man lie all world over two monts. There is not money. And how many people wait to see the check, including Shirov? This is disgraceful. FIDE give to Kamski very mutch time and he keeped lieing. Why Chernenko say that money will be payd when there isnt money? Now, i thing, Shirov must play match with Topa.
