“The Women’s World Chess Championship opens the chain of events in August 28 in Nalchik , Russia . The event brings together the qualified players in a KO system, leading directly to the world champion title match at the end of the tournament. Unfortunately, some qualified players decided not to participate in the championship because of the uncertainties created by the South Ossetia conflict between Russia and Georgia .
FIDE President Ilyumzhinov recently negotiated the conditions with the organizers and thus FIDE hopes that the effects of the military actions will not directly disturb the championship, it will be held in a peaceful and safe manner. Its significance is great as this is the highest level of competition for women chess players of the world and it can crown the new Queen of the chess world.”

FIDE hopes that the players will be safe? How comforting!
Thats not what the text says.
Please stop making things up.
I’m a subscriber of FIDE and that’s exactly what it says.
Kirsan should put on a skirt and play in the KO without his body guards and private jet at the ready to whisk him away from danger. Then we’d see just what kind of guts he has – and what kind of man he is. Question: Did he have to bribe the locals to provide “security” for the female chessplayers?

Jan,
