Ten students awarded Oppenheimer scholarship
By Todd Bailey The New Mexican June 3, 2007

The J. Robert Oppenheimer Memorial Committee selected 10 Northern New Mexico students for scholarships, two of whom — Luwen Huang and Benjamin Foreback — will graduate from Santa Fe High School this month.

Foreback, the son of Ruth Brennesholtz and Terrance Foreback of Santa Fe, attained the rank of Eagle Scout in 2006 and has won several local and statewide mathematical contests. He is a member of the Santa Fe High chess team, which won the past two state championships, and plans to study meteorology at the University of Utah.

“My goal is to enter the field of meteorology to help make accurate predictions and forecasts in order to help people be more prepared for disaster that can strike at any time,” Foreback said. “In addition to weather forecasting, I would like to spend time conducting research on global weather issues, such as global warming and ultraviolet radiation.”
