WINDHOEK – Following a well-deserved breather over the festive season – it’s back to serious stuff for those in the business of mind games.

In 2007, students from the TWCA won two medals. The academy only entered one team during the 2007 Namibia School Team Chess Championship in which they achieved 12th position from 36 teams.

With an accelerated performance, the academy went on to win a remarkable haul of nine medals out of 21 at the Namibian Junior Chess Championship the following year.

Three teams represented the academy during the 2008 edition of the Namibia School Team Chess Championship that saw the TWCA A-team walking away with the silver medals, trailed closely by the TWCA B-team who shared 3rd – 5th spot with other schools.

All in all, TWCA students participated in 5 events and brought home a total haul of 15 medals.

Last year belonged to WOW, once again claiming several top spots. This time round, TWCA ended in the top 3 places – 36 times in only 10 chess events. The highlight was the Khomas regional competition for boys and girls.

The boys champion was 15-year old Julian Isaak, who was 14 at the time. Remarkably, he had to negotiate his way past players from every age group, which also included u/18 and u/20s.
