First-ever Brooklyn Chess Championship draws attention from borough’s stars of all ages

Calling all would-be Brooklyn Bobby Fishers: Here’s a chance to show off your chess moves.

Organizers of the first-ever Brooklyn Chess Championship hope the borough’s game-playing stars show up for the February contest, which they hope to make an annual showcase of local chess wizards.

“Brooklyn has always kind of had chess fever,” said Brooklyn Lyceum program director Eric Richmond, explaining why Brooklyn deserves a title match of its own. “There’s a critical mass here.”

There’s space for 200 entrants – adults and youths – for the two-day competition on Feb. 27 and 28.
