Cuban Chess Master Bruzon Reaches Personal Record

Havana, Cuba, Feb 29.- Cuban Lázaro Bruzon reached a personal record of 2,694 ELO points at the world ranking of the International Chess Federation this Wednesday, said this international sport entity.

Bruzon, five-time Cuban national champion, had 2,691 ELO points in January. Now he has added three points at the Dutch Tata Steel tournament and went up two places in the world classification list, from the 55th to the 53rd.

In May 2011, Bruzon reached 2.693 points, getting closer to the 2,700 points. This spot level point has only been reached by another 46 players in the world up to now.

The Cuban with the highest ELO spot level point is in the hands of Great Master Leinier Dominguez (20th place in the world ranking with 2,730), the first in Latin America and the third highest in the continent.

Dominguez, who has not played any matches in this period, is behind US players Hikaru Nakamura (2,771) and Gata Kamsky (2,741), now 6th and 16th in the world ranking respectively.

The world ranking’s first place is still in the hands of Norwegian Magnus Carlsen (2,835) without any changes in January, followed by Armenian Levon Aronian (2,820), a man who has added 15 points more.

Russian Vladimir Kramnik (2,801 points) has not introduced any changes, but he still has the third place, ahead of Indian Viswanathan Anand (2,799), the current world champion but still under 2,800 points.

The rest in the list of the 10 best players in the world is completed with Teimour Radjabov (Azerbaidzhan, 2,784, fifth), Italian Fabiano Caruana (2,767, seventh), Russians Serguei Karjakin (2, 766, eighth) and Alexander Morozevich (2,765, ninth) and Ukranian Vassily Ivanchuk (2,764, tenth).

Among the best countries Cuba is placed in the 17th place with 2,595 ELO points, in a list headed by Russia (2,744), Ukraine (2,697) and China (2,661). (Prensa Latina).
