Nice Queen’s and King’s Indian Offence. Congratulations
I mean … offensive 😉
Susan,
Does Hou Yifan have two or one GM norms before this tournemnt?
Someone tell me she has one while others tell me she has two.
Good question! I was under the impression that she got 2. I remember her getting 2599 performance in at least 1 event in addition to her other excellent results. I am not sure if any exception was made by FIDE.
Best wishes,
Susan Polgar
Thanks for your response Susan.
re: Hou Yifan, She achieved a performance rating of 2674 in the 1st Atatürk International Women Masters Chess Tournament in Istanbul. It should provide her with her second GM norm, though this is conditional on FIDE ratifying WGM Xue Zhao’s attainment of her Grandmaster title.

Actually Hou earned her first GM norm in Aeroflot but was not able to get it in Atatürk Women Masters due to last minute withdrawal of Chiburdanidze since she was supposed to be third GM in the event which would enable the players to achieve a GM norm. Javakishvili was included instead of the ex-world champion but this meant noone could take a GM-norm.
