Chess’ Fearless Leader Has Spoken!
Reading between the lines, Kirsan is actually saying “Girls, I don’t care if your butts may be in danger by playing chess in Nalchik. Suck it up. We’re all going to have a good time pretending nothing, absolutely nothing is wrong.” Er, I think Fearless Leader had better start wondering if his republic (Kalmaykia) might soon be on the terrorist Putin’s short list of countries to invade during his spare time…
What is your take about this situation?
My take is simple to the girls: DON’T GO!
My take is simpler to the girls: GO!
If I decide to take life(death) insurance and play there, what would I be offered from the Insurance company?
Note to FIDE: if a chess player dies at a tournament, that reduces the chances of that player participating in future tournaments.
btw, Kirsan is Russian, i.e. his country cannot be invaded by Russia not more than California can be invaded by US 🙂
In the mean time let me remind you few countries invaded by terrorist US and their alies:
Serbia. We chose that Kosovo, part of Serbia has the right to declare independence and we also bombed Serbia for the same reason… Any similarities with the action of Putin in South Osetia?
And of course let us remind invation of Iraq and Afganistan… 🙂
Finally, speaking of responses out of proportion, how about Israel bombing for a whole month Libanon for 2 kidnaped soldiers… (while in South Osetia, 2,000 people were killed by Georgians and more 30,000 displaced from homes in a total population of 70,000 of the region, i.e. about 50%!!)
SO who is out of proportion and who is terrorist? The west (US, EU Israel) or Russia?
btw.. Kirsan is not russian. Plus Kalmykia has a history of hostilities from Russia.
Kalmykia is more Russia than South Osetia is Georgian…
So either you consider Georgia agressively attaking another republic (i.e. justify the intervation of someone to stop this) OR you admit that it is not possible to have attacks in one own country in which case Kalmukia is not going to be attacked by Russia…
After all, Kalmukia never asked for independece and Russia has nothing against them, since they belong to Russia…
The US trıed to use Georgıa to create a crısıs so that Obama would be less lıkely to be elected.
Russıa handled the sıtuatıon well.
Who ıs goıng to pose a danger to the gırls ın Nalchık? The Georgıans?
Of course Kalmykia wants independence – from both Russia and Kirsan.
Why else would Kalmykians and Chechens [remember them?] have taken all the risks of semi-supporting the Germans when they were in the area in 1942, if they had not been thoroughly discontented with their masters?
Of course Saakashvili has been an utter fool.
But the Russian response has been quite disproportionate and clearly pre-planned.
Small wonder that other countries that were formerly slaves in the USSR such as Ukraine, Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania are greatly concerned.
Serbia? US steps in to protect Muslims and halt “ethnic cleansing”.
Afghanistan? An attack on the U.S. was organized from there with every indication that further attacks were coming.
Iraq? US and its allies enforce UN resolutions against rogue behavior.
Obviously anon 12:21 knows practically nothing about Kalmykia.
“Serbia? US steps in to protect Muslims and halt “ethnic cleansing”.”
LOL. There never were any Muslims in Serbia.

BRAVO!
Well said!
What was that Georgian geezer thinking? Cause and effect. Did he think acting The Man in S. Ossetia, the Russians wouldn’t respond? Did he think Uncle Sam would save his ass?
Bush Senior encouraged the Kurds? Where’d that get them?
The US responded in WWII when it was attacked – not before. UK only paid back its debt to US (land lease etc) about 2006. There’s no free lunch. Every nation looks after no. 1.
Sub Olmert for Putin, Israel for Russia, Palestine for Georgia, 2007 for 2008. What’s the diff?
Remember the Monroe doctrine? Cheddi Jagan/ Forbes Burnham/Guyana…Bishop/Grenada..Chile
…Ollie-Iran-Contras-etc, etc, etc…
Look at the big pic…
Good golly Ms. Molly..if Georgia and all the new folks lookin’ to hitch a ride on Uncle Sam’s coat tails do join NATO is the West gonna get into a scrap with Russia over these? The nationalistic, so-called new “democracies”?
What’s REALLY with training the Ukrainians, etc?
Politicians – mostly failed lawyers!
Monsanto…Rosehall hotel…lobby supports other banana/sugar cane growers…so WI gets sunk with its preferentaial trade…do they go to growing the marijuana then?
US backyard…
Is there equiv. of Monroe doctrine in the Russian backyard?
If it were my wife or daughter needing to go to a place so close to a conflict, I’d be totally against it. I would not put ultimate responsibility for her safety in the hands of Kirsan and FIDE. It’s hard to tell whether FIDE’s response to the open letter is bravado, delusion, stupidity, or sexism. Maybe some of all.
“LOL. There never were any Muslims in Serbia.”
ROFL. What do you think the religion of Kosovars is then?
Also, there is a considerable body of Muslims in the Sanjak corridor, bordering Montenegro.
That these people are Muslims is a result of Turkish conquest of the area centuries ago. Some of the people decided it was better to covert than be massacered.
Best to stick to commenting on something you know something about.
Doesn’t Kirsan believe that he was abducted by aliens once?
“Doesn’t Kirsan believe that he was abducted by aliens once?”
Yeah, the probe is still in his butt. This is why the poor guy can’t think strait. The probe is jabbing Kirsan in the brain!
Well you missed my point.
When I said that US and EU entered Serbia I did not coment on whether it was right or wrong.
I just said they invaded another country (with no UN resolution). The reason was ethnioc cleansing and supress of Muslims. OK, but the reason for Russian invasion was ethnic cleansinc and supression and heavy attack, bombings etc on South Osetians.
Does this seems any similar? I let to you to judge whether these were good or bad interventions. I only say that they are the same situation and one should judge both with same criteria (and note that Russia stopped the attack after 5 days while NATO and EU after much much longer after distroying fully Serbia and granting independence of Kosovo, something that Russians didn’t do in S. Osetia).
I can’t say I’m suprised … Kirsan is concerned that FIDE will have to shell out more money if the tournament is moved. How much are the lives of the best female players in the world worth? Something tells me if Kramnik made objections to a tournament venue he’d be given consideration.
The only explanation for not changing the venue is financial. Why else would Kirsan want the women to stay? It’s just another proof that Kirsan is insane and should be replaced … or worse … an insane chauvinist. If anyone who earned the right is not allowed to play – the championship is a big hoax.
