Blitz in Yuzhny

On 14 September, as a part of the traditional chess festival in Yuzhny near Odessa in Ukraine, a strong blitz tournament was organized. There were 10 prizes, the first prize being about 3 thousand USD. More than 150 players participated. The time control was 3 minutes per game and 2 seconds per move. The Ukrainian Grandmaster Dmitry Kononenko took clear first place, scoring +12 –2 =1.
Final standings:
1. GM Kononenko (2605) – 37 pts,
2-3. GMs Korobov (2688) and Efimenko (2689) – 35
4-9. IM Bogdanovich (2534), GM Malaniuk (2525), GM G. Kuzmin (2417), FM O. Bortnyk (2361), IM Nosenko (2523), GM Oleksienko (2539) – 31
10. GM Vysochin (2532) – 30, etc.
(3 points for a win, 1 point for a draw)
