Students gather to compete in chess

More than 50 students from Rapid City, Pierre and Sioux Falls competed Saturday in the Eighth Annual Black Hills Scholastic Chess Tournament at the South Dakota School of Mines & Technology.
Tournament organizer Eric Abrahamson provided the following results:In the primary division, for students in grades kindergarten through third, Michael Knudson took first place.
Grandview Elementary won the first-place team trophy.In the elementary division, students in grades kindergarten through fifth grade competed against one another.
Cory Iwan from Grandview Elementary took first place. Grandview Elementary also won the first-place team trophy.
Among the middle schoolers, Riley Iwan of South Middle School finished first. South Middle School took home the first-place team trophy.
