Here are some of the proposals. Which one do you think is the fairest, bring the most amount of excitement to our sport but not lose the prestige? Which one do you prefer?

1. 12 person round robin

a) defending champion
b) the next top 8 rated players (peak 12 month rating + rating at the time of invitation)
c) 3 qualifiers from official USCF national championships (US Open Champion, National Open Champion, US Junior Champion)

2. 12-16 players (2 sections)

a) defending champion
b) the next top 8 or 12 rated players (peak 12 month rating + rating at the time of invitation)
c) 3 qualifiers from official USCF national championships (US Open Champion, National Open Champion, US Junior Champion)
d) the top 2 players of each section will qualify for the knockout matches
e) the winner of of each section will face the #2 seed of the other section (2-4 games depending on the prize funds)

3. 8 players double round robin

a) defending champion
b) the next top 4 rated players (peak 12 month rating + rating of the time of invitation)
c) 3 qualifiers from official USCF national championships (US Open Champion, National Open Champion, US Junior Champion)

4. Big Swiss event with 32 or 64 players like in the last few years

5. 16 or 32 player knockout event
