I’m pretty sure i would lose both sides
White’s better. Two pawn islands vs. four, and a stronger minor piece.
i reckon black has to give the extra pawn on c7 for any activity and then it will be a draw.
I agree that I prefer White but I don’t think it’s enough to win.
shirov is pressing aronian in every game…and its anyones game again…very little between them…wonderful games..
its a shame that one of them wont play in mexico…
50. Rd1 looks like the cream on the cake. I’m impressed by Aronian’s technique: superb.
67…Ra6 secures the draw for shirov
fantastic defense by him!
yes draw now!
Well, well, indeed, what a defence … what a match!
Well played both, especially the defencive side was difficult with less time on the clock even.
Superleague.
its a book draw, the position is in panchenkos endgame book, theoretical draw, very easy to see and don’t need a book for it..
black king goes behind the pawn and if whites rook leaves the queening file of the pawn to allow it to move forwards black takes it
Of couse book draw in the end, but the way towards it … I’m not sure if white missed something with the knight and bishop still on. Wouldn’t be surprised.
68. Kg7 Kg5 (Kf5?? loses, need to be behind the pawn on the same side as opponents king otherwise 69. Rd7 and black cannot take the pawn as he cannot cover the check with his own rook and thereby losing it)
sorry if 68…kf5 not 69. rd7 but rc7 or rb7 of course
Yep, and white would have preferred an e-pawn in the end, making the draw by perpetual impossible, which would now be the case after
Kg5 Rf8
Rb6 f7
Rg6+ Kh7
Rh6+ etc.
