Vishwanathan Anand is not short on motivation to retain the world title and do well this year. He has already proved himself as one of the greatest rapid chess players ever. His recent victory in the format came against Peter Leko when Anand won 5-3 in the eight-game championship in Hungary earlier this year. He is now gearing up for Rapid Chess Championship in Mainz that will take place next month.

Topalov is too good.
May I suggest that the Bulgarian lion will not agree with this statement
ananad is too old for chess. better to have children and be official in aicf.
Why are you guys so anti-Anand? Why can’t you be objective and face the fact that Anand is repeat is the WC and a worthy one at that!
Mathur
that title is so misleading. Nowhere in the interview does anand say he is trying for the top elo spot. actually he says doing well in the tournaments is more important for him than elo.
retire soon he may.., but only after kicking topalovs a$$
How can we even talk about Anand in the top spot when we have not addressed the grievances of Kramnik who was forced to surrender his title for a tournament in Mexico City and then fight for his title back as the challenger? Bobby Fischer would never have to agreed to such terms and neither should we. For the majority of the chess world Kramnik is still the world champion, the only man to ever beat Garry Kasparov in a match the correct way.
“How can we even talk…” Following your logic Alehin is still a WC. Nobody beat him in a match:)
Isn’t it time to name the GM with the highest ELO the WC. And finish with this Int’l Bureaucracy called Int’l Chess Federation, chaired by an oligarch and driven by interests that have little to do with chess?
hehe Yall something!
