BRIEF: Squirrel Hill Woman Finishes Seventh in Chess Championship

Oct. 14–A Pittsburgh woman finished seventh in the U.S. Women’s Chess Championship held this week in St. Louis.
Iryna Zenyuk, 23, of Squirrel Hill faced nine opponents in the competition, defeating the two youngest players in the tournament, Alisa Melekhina, 18, and Yun Fan, 19.
Zenyuk finished in a draw against two others, including her good friend and second-place finisher, Irina Krush. Two-time U.S. Women’s Champion Anna Zatonskih won the tournament.
