Good luck Edward. This should be a good battle.
Emma Pierson (1760) beat WFM Abby Marshall (2085) in the third round. I’d like to see the score.
Mention should be made of Adithya Balasubramanian who beat me in the last round to take clear third behind Shin and Lu ( two move draw in final round). Going into that round, I was clear third with 3.5 out of 4. Adithya has markedly improved his middlegame. Virginia is quickly becoming a breeding ground for teenage masters. However, I did see one twelve year old A player play like a 2400 in the middlegame to obtain a two pawn advantage against a 2210 player in a r+p ending. Then he made multiple simple errors in the ending, playing like a 1500 and allowed the master to draw. More attention to boring endgame study will turn some of these young 2200s into 2400s. But how do you get a 12 year old to focus on technical endings? The state now has some phenomenal talents though.- Daniel Miller
