P.E.I.’s representatives for the Canadian Chess Challenge, a national tournament for school-age students, were chosen at a tournament in Charlottetown Sunday.

One student each from grades one through 12 earned the honour of representing their province in Halifax in May.

Grade 3 student Karla McCallum of Spring Park School is heading to the nationals for the second year in a row.

“I think it was trying to play the best moves that I could in my game and just trying to stay confident with myself,” said McCallum.

“I felt very good that I won so that I could go to Halifax. I’m very happy right now.”

McCallum said she will be putting in some extra chess practice before heading to the national competition. She hopes to one day make a career as a chess master.
