Congratulations to Camilla Baginskaite! She won second game with black. I wish her good luck on tiebreake today. Go Camilla!
1…Rxg2 2.Rxg2 Rf8+ 3.Bf3 Rxf3+ 4.Qxf3 Qxf3+ 5.Kg1 Qd1+ 6.Kh2 Nf3+ 7.Kg3 Qxh1 8.Kxf3 Qf3+ 9.Rf2 Qxc4 #Black resign because not enough material to fight
1. … Nd3 will be a strong move, cause the rook can’t really go anywhere:
2. Rd2 Rf8+
3. Bf3 R8xf3+
4. gxf3 Rxf3+
5. Qxf3 Qxf3
this is clearly winning for black.
if for example 2. Rf5, then … Rxg2.
greets, jan
It has to be Rxg2.
To take the rook doesn’t help white, because of Rf8+, and the king has nowhere to go. Mate after a couple of white sacrifaces.
Qxf2# is the immediate threat here.
Other alternatives for whites defence:
a)
1. Rxg2 Qc2
2. Nd3 again attacks f2 and threats Qe1# as well. White can’t defend both.
b)
1. Rxg2 Qe2
2. Qc2+ Qe1
3. Rxf2+ Kxf2
4. Rf8+
c)
1. Rxg2 R somewhere in f-line giving up to take on g2.
2. Nd3 (threat is Rf2+ Rxf2 Qxf2#)
2. … Qc2
3. Qe1#
Forgot to mention this line:
1. Rxg2 Qe1
2. Qd3+ Qe2 (or Re2 Qf5+ mating)
3. Qb1+ Qe1
4. Rxf2+ Kxf2
5. Nd3 with fork.
The variation
1. Rxg2 Qe2
runs into the same of course.
I think I erroneously ended that line with Rf8 instead of Nd3.
1…Rxg2! deviating the rook 2.Rxg2 Rf8+ is decisive or 2.Rf Rg1 and mate on the next move….
so 2.Qe2 Qc1+ 3.Qd1 (3.Qe1 Rg1+!) Qxc4+ et caetera, there isn’t too much to analyse from now on…
My 3rd attempt, there was a line that didn’t look convincing:
1. Rxg2 Qe1
2. Qd3+ Re2
And Qf5+ doesn’t look good because of Rf2.
Looks more like Qg3!
It’s really hard work (especially without a board) to prove the correctness of the intuitively promising Rxg2. It’s so many lines here!
White’s king may feel a bit unpleasant, and the next black move shows why:
1. … Rxg2!
2. Rxg2 Rf8+
3. Bf3 Rxf3+
4. Qxf3 Nxf3

I like adding things after publishing a first post …
After
1. … Rxg2 the try 2. Qe1 does not help for
2. Qe1 Rg1+
3. Rxg1 Rxg1+
4. Kxg1 Qxe1+
Lets see what else I will find later …
