After the first pair of games, only Svidler, Mamedyarov, Karjakin have moved on. The rest of the field will head to the rapid / blitz playoff tomorrow. So and Caruana have proven again this round that they can play against the best of them.

Chess Daily News from Susan Polgar
Mystery to me (maybe it is obvious to others?).
Mamedyarov, Shakhriyar (AZE) ½-½ Laznicka, Viktor (CZE)
Mamedyarov won yesterday. Today they drew after 13 moves, still in the opening sequence. What could have been the motivation to Laznicka to essentially give up on the possibility to even the score and move into a third day tiebreaker? What am I missing here?
So is awesome again.
So is awesome again.
Your brain.
Mamedyarov, Radjabov and Gashimov will all make it to the WC finals.
the reason he drew so fast was prob because he was black and it still affects your rating points- he prob figured that if he didnt win with white against mamedyarov then he wasnt gonna win with black- i agree with you that i would’ve at least fought but in all likelihood a long hard fought battle would’ve been at best a draw for him anyway
2640 Elo Wesley seems to play over an beyond a 2700 player.
Me thinks he has reached that ELO 2700 level already.
“Me thinks he has reached that ELO 2700 level already.”
That should be “I thinks” Ms. Chambers.

Laznicka’s fighting spirit sucks. Lots of games lately were won with black. He owed it to his countrymen to go all-out, and he had nothing to lose but a few rating points. He simply gave up. Not a good role model for young players.
