This was the 23rd game between Chigorin and Steinitz in the 1892 World Championship. Chigorin was White and the score would have been tied if he could convert the huge advantage into a win. All he had to do was play 32.Rxb7 and the game would soon be over.
For some inexplicable reasons, Chigorin walked into a mate in 2 with Bb4?? It could happen to anyone, even in a World Championship match! Monday morning quarterback is always a lot easier!
For those of you who are interested in the game score, here it is:

Hi again susan, i was just about to leave, i wonder if your here right now; anyway I´ll be the first one to make a comment, what a priviledge!!
Thanks for the diagram above, I´n not 100% sure but u can dig up; Capablanca made a big blunder at his match with Capablanca in 1935 or was it 1927??
Im sry i dont have it or other wise i could contribute to your site, since their seems to be many bloggers concerned about the blunders at this early match.
I guess we all do, i do but not at WCC jaa, (i wouldn´t mind thou);
Still there´s many parameters involving this match, surely Topalov hasnt settled yet, and its not 2005 but 2006, we all have our best timing; Wht´s up at queens werre u live? , anything exciting lately?
How can u add an image here?
ok ill leave now i dont want to monopolize the scrren, Do u expect that topalov reaction will be enough like the linares tournement?
my prediction, -secretly. was that Kramnik had a better opportunity to win, and im not saying it because his 2-0, i havent even seen completely the 1st game; but thats why i asked u who did u think was going to win, and if y had a favourite; i guess u can still answer me if u wish?
p.d. any posibilty of sharing with us u fans any games of yours, a big blunder or a game u “hurt” by loosing it.
see you susy…..
You’re right. It could happen to anyone. It only happens to me a little more 🙂
Ah, the King’s Gambit. Those were the days. 🙂
Susan, what’s the worst blunder you ever made?
@irishspy – those were the days, those were the days… please: no moaning about the king’s gambit …
better read Joe Gallagher’s fine articles about “The Renaissance of the King’s Gambit”
