I remember this one. It was from the Melody Amber that year, but I don’t remember if it was rapid or blindfolded. In any case, without having already seen it, I don’t honestly know if I could actually find the winning move- it sure is a shot out of nowhere:
1. …..Qf3!!
White has the following, equally useless replies-Qb7, cb7, and Bf3:
2. Qb7 Rh1 with one of the prettiest mating themes in chess- the x-ray attack through an opponent’s piece- in this case the queen’s attack on h1 through the white bishop.
Or, at move 2:
2. cb7 Kf5!
The only winning move, I think. This forces white to check from e6 if he wishes to delay things the maximum number of moves, but black just keeps capturing pieces with the king:
3. Qe6 Ke6
4. Re1 Kf6
5. Re6 Ke6
6. Re2 Kf6
7. Re6 Ke6
And, now, white is all out of checks, and must capture at f3 or delay with Bh3:
8. Bf3 gf3
9. any Rh1#
1.-Qf3!!

I remember pondering with Rh1 for quite some time after this game (like many others) but concluded it would lead to a draw atmost.

What’s wrong with me if I don’t see it?
I looked at 1. … Rh1+? for a long time. It doesn’t work!?!
After 2. Bxh1 Qh2+ 3. Kf1 Qxh1+ 4. Ke2, neither 4. … Re8+, 4. … Qf3+, nor 4. … Qe4+ leads to mate unless White makes a mistake.
The correct first move is a real doozy.

or
2.cxAb7+ Kf5

3.Dd8+! RxQ

Qf3! Sac the queen for an unstoppable corner mate after BxQ and PxB. White is no better running away, as Kf1 leads to Rh1, BxR, and RxB mate.
1Rh1+, first choice for anybody fails as Lucidmarie pointed out. The discovered check by … cxb7 or … c7 is not not fearful as white can not sustain attack after kf5. hence you can look for more insane move for black.
1…. Rf3 quiet move, no check, only threat.

5Re2+ kf7 (not fxe2) and black wins.
1. … Qf3 threatening Rh1+ (with or without 2. Bxf3 gxf3). White has no way to get his pieces over to defend his king.
e.g.

2. Bxf3 gxf3
3. cxb7+ Kf5
and white can do nothing but throw his pieces away to delay mate.

1…Qf3!! 2.cxb7+ Kf5! looks strong like bull, e.g. 3.Bxf3 gxf3 and mates on h1.
1. .., Qf3 leads to mate.
If 2 Bf3, gf3 and mate follows.
Any other response by W gets the response Ra1+ leading to mate.
I meant 1… Qf3 but typed 1… Rf3
