FIDE is publishing the player’s contract for the Women’s World Chess Championship to be held in Tehran, Iran from 10 February to 5 March 2017. The qualified players are expected to fax or email scanned the original document of their signed contract to the FIDE Secretariat’s fax number +30 2109212859 or email office@fide.com no later than midnight of Wednesday, 4 January 2017. FIDE is also publishing the initial list of qualifiers as per regulations.

Player’s Contract for Participation in the 2017 Women’s World Chess Championship

The World Chess Federation (FIDE) is the governing body of the Women’s World Chess Championship (hereinafter referred to as the Championship).

The organiser of the 2017 Championship is the Chess Federation of Iran acting in co-operation with FIDE.

In order to ensure that the Championship is played in accordance with its approved regulations, the statutes of FIDE and the local legislation of the host country, the following provisions shall apply:

1. Dates and Venue
1.1 The Championship shall be held from 10 February to 5 March 2017 in Tehran, Iran.
1.2 All the players qualified for the Championship must stay at the official Championship hotel(s), and the name of
this hotel(s) shall be announced later by FIDE.

2. Right of Participation
2.1 A list of qualified players and reserves approved so far by FIDE is attached and the updated list shall be
published on the FIDE web site.
2.2 Qualified participants are entitled to participate in the Championship. This right may only be set aside if the
player does not meet the deadlines specified in this contract or otherwise behaves in a way and manner that is in
violation of the provisions of this contract, in which case FIDE may designate a reserve to replace her.

3. Confirmation deadlines
3.1 Qualified players and reserves are expected to fax or email the scanned original document of their signed
contract to the FIDE Secretariat not later than midnight 4 January 2017, and to send the original to FIDE by
registered airmail, postmarked no later than 4 January 2017.
3.2 Qualified players shall register at the Championship Secretariat in person not later than twelve hours before the
commencement of play in the first round failing which they shall be forfeited.

4. The Player’s Obligations
4.1 On signing this player’s contract the player commits herself to completing the various stages of the
Championship in accordance with the regulations for the Women’s World Championship, the local legislation of
the host country, FIDE Code of Ethics, FIDE Anti-Doping Disciplinary Regulations, FIDE Statutes, FIDE Laws
of Chess and rules and regulations which form an integral part of this contract, save in the case of illness
evidenced by a medical certificate.
4.1b During the tournament, players will have to give interviews and make appearances as described in article 3.13.2
of the Women’s World Championship Regulations. The winner shall provide one exclusive interview to the
FIDE Press Officer upon the conclusion of the event (same day or one day after).
4.2 For the period holding the world championship title, the Women’s World Champion shall agree to promote
chess around the World and be ready to attend promotional events at no fee but with her expenses paid by FIDE
provided the prescribed date(s) for the promotion are not in conflict with any established tournaments in the
calendar. This period of promotion shall not exceed fourteen days in total (excluding days of travel).
4.3 The winner of the 2017 Women’s World Championship in Tehran will become World Champion and must
defend her title in the last quarter of 2017 against the challenger to be determined from the FIDE Women’s
Grand-Prix 2015-16. If the Women’s World Champion does not play the World Championship match in the last
quarter of 2017, she forfeits her title.
4.4 Players may be required to wear clothes or apparel with special branding from sponsors when specifically
approved by the FIDE President.
4.5 Players are required to appear punctually for the start of play in each game of the round (zero tolerance rule).
4.6 Qualified players for the Championship shall be required to attend the Opening Ceremony or any official
reception specifically approved by the FIDE President failing which a fine of USD 500 may be imposed for each
infraction from the prize money.

5. Financial conditions
5.1 The Championship has a total prize fund of USD 450,000 (four hundred and fifty thousand dollars), to be
distributed to the players in accordance with the regulations of the Championship. There will not be any FIDE
deduction of 20% from the player’s prize fund.
5.2 Subject to the Regulations for the Women’s World Championship and the provisions of this contract, the Prizes
for the losers in each round and the eventual winner of the Championship are specified in the schedule of prizes
approved by the Presidential Board of FIDE.
5.3 Subject to the provisions of this contract, the amount to which a player is entitled will be paid by direct bank
transfer or by bank cheque drawn in US Dollars on UBS, Lausanne not later than two weeks after the end of the
Championship.
5.4 Although FIDE has signed an agreement with the organiser stating that the prize funds are net and free of all
local tax, FIDE will not be responsible for any national or local tax deducted from the prize money. FIDE shall
inform participants of any double taxation treaties between the host country and their respective home countries
to ensure that their personal obligation of paying tax in their home countries are reduced.
5.5 FIDE or the Organizing Committee will not be responsible for any application of political or financial sanctions
from the organizing country regarding players of the tournament. At the same time, FIDE has no prior
knowledge of such sanctions.
5.6 Without prejudice to the provisions of this contract, the game scores are the property of FIDE.
5.7 There shall be no cash advance or pocket money for the players. Each participant will be responsible for the
expenses of her delegation.

6. Arbitration
6.1 Any dispute arising from or related to the present contract shall be submitted exclusively to the Court of
Arbitration for Sport (CAS) in Lausanne, Switzerland. The Court proceedings shall take place in English.
By signing this contract, I hereby confirm that I will participate in the 2017 Women’s World Championship Tournament
and have in consultation with my national federation acquainted myself with the applicable FIDE Statutes, the local
legislation of the host country, FIDE Code of Ethics, FIDE Anti-Doping Disciplinary Regulations, FIDE Laws of Chess
and rules and regulations and accept the conditions relating to my participation.
